SECRETS OF MY WISE GRANDMOTHER'S BEQUEST

Secrets of My Wise Grandmother’s Bequest tells a story about taking joy in life and the love of nature, ever-pristine – a story this grandmother told her granddaughters through embroidery. The work takes the form of an installation in an apartment building courtyard. By placing these old embroidered textiles in a public space, the artist makes a statement about being able to notice and safeguard beauty, as well as to take joy in life, even in our difficult times.
Mariam Talibjanova is an early-career artist from Almaty, Kazakhstan. In this, her first work of public art, she draws on her family history and folk art traditions. The project is a collaboration with Talibjanova’s sisters and parents, as well as her friends from school.
